The results of a European survey on public attitudes towards childhood obesity were released yesterday. The survey, conducted by Lightspeed Research, an online market research company, polled more than 99,000 people in eight countries across Europe.

The survey revealed;
  • 71% of those surveyed hold parents responsible for child obesity
  • Advertisers were held responsible by 13% of respondents
  • Food manufacturers were held responsible by 13% of respondents
  • The government, schools and restaurants were felt to be the least to blame, each receiving only 1% of the votes
The Poll was conducted in Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Australia among 99,109 respondents in June 2006.
